Gosaikunda trek is another popular trekking in Lantang region that takes you to the vicinity of scared Lake of Gosaidunda and the remote and mesmerizing valley of Langtang. Langtang region is well known and the 03rd popular trekking after Annapurna and Everest region of Nepal and for its world class expeditions and treks. More over this region is also popular for its Himalaya glaciers. This region offers magnificent rhododendron and bamboo forests with an ampleness of wildlife, stunning waterfalls flowing over giant boulders, breathtaking views of lofty mountains of Langtang Lirung (7,200m/23,622ft), visiting the holy lakes of Saraswatikunda, Suryakunda and Gosaikunda. The main ethnic groups here are Tamang and Bhotias whose culture, tradition, language, custom and religion are similar and of Tibetan origin. This trip allows you to observe the local life-styles the major highlight of this trek is the Lake of Gosaikunda which is an alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake of Nepal that lies at the elevation of 4,380 m (14,370 ft) in the Rasuwa District of Central Nepal.
This entire region is surrounded by the second largest National Park of Nepal was established in 1976 considered as the first Himalayan National Park with the area of 1,710 sq. km.
According to the pristine Hindu epic, Gosaikunda Lake is believed as the vicarage of Lord Shiva (one of three main Hindu deities) and Goddess Gauri. All Hindu devotes believe that this lake was formed due to digging of the land by Trishul (holy Trident) of Lord Shiva. Thousands of both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from India and Nepal visits this area every year especially on full moon day of August on a special occasion of ‘Janai Purnima’ festival.
This tremendous adventurous trip of Langtang Gosainkunda Trek begins with the drive to Syaprubeshi, which is nearly 137 km from Kathmandu. Starting walk to the Langtang village through Lama Hotel, the trail follows through rare wilderness route with majestic views of alpine forests and high altitude meadows, on reaching at Kyanjin Gompa via Langtang village. The trail offers mesmerizing view of Langtang Lirung, including Shisha Pangma (8,013m) in Tibet side and of Naya Kanga peak (5,846m), formerly known as Ganja La Chuli to the west of this valley. Then return journey to Thulo Syarpu and to Gosainkunda via Shing Gompa, spending night in Gosainkunda, and trekking to Sundarijal via Gopte, Kutumsang and Chisopani with a drive of one hour to reach Kathmandu after a wonderful time in the high hills and mountains.
